Activate 48 Coalition Sends Letter to Justice Department Requesting Investigation Into Arizona Voter Intimidation

PHOENIX — Activate 48 today sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland asking the Justice Department to launch an investigation into cases of alleged voter intimidation in Arizona. The letter follows reports that Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs has referred at least half a dozen reports of voter intimidation to the agency and echoes calls for the Department to take swift action.
“….we are asking your office to immediately investigate these matters and reassure voters across the country that the Justice Department is committed to the safety and security of voters and our elections,” the letter says. “Arizonans have a constitutional right to safe and secure elections, free from intimidation and interference.”
Activate 48 coalition members are heavily involved in voter turnout efforts across the state, knocking on hundreds of thousands of doors in this final push to Election Day. The coalition is led by four of Arizona’s leading grassroots organizations representing Latinos and communities of color — LUCHA; Mi Familia Vota; Our Voice, Our Vote Arizona; and Chispa Arizona.
“Make no mistake, voters should still make every effort to submit their early ballot — whether in-person, by mail, or at a ballot dropbox,” said Activate 48 Executive Director Laura Dent. “Arizonans should not be deterred by these efforts to silence our voices and prevent our communities from exercising the most fundamental right we have in our democracy.”
